We care for each other and our planet. This year we are supporting Homeless and Hunger Awareness week all month long.
To feed our future we are collaborating with the university and community to expand reach and impact. Focusing on providing relief and preventing hardship for others we volunteer, donate, and educate.
Join Our Efforts-
-Hosting A Month Long Food and Clothes Drive (November 3rd-30th)
-Promoting Preventive Planning: With the Universities Student Support Services we promote Financial Stability workshops to encourage growth and help prevent students from facing financial hardship in their future. (For SSS Students November 18th)
-We are also working with The Career Development Center to share advice and resources for students to find employment opportunities. (All Year)
-Sustainable Fashion-Partnering with the local business Young Forever Consignment, we will host a Fashion show with donated clothes to share all of the benefits of sustainable fashion and sustainable service (November 15th (International Recycle Day) - 16th)
We will donate all proceeds to homeless shelters for families and people in need. This allows us to gather materials and food for people in need as well as provide opportunity to students to gain professional experience, volunteer opportunity, and prevent future hardship for themselves and others.

This fall, during National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, MASSPIRG is planning a Walkathon in partnership with Habitat for Humanity to raise funds for their 1st Westport Passive House duplex build, which will house two local families in need of safe, well-built housing that is affordable. The walk will occur Sunday, November 14th at 12pm (rain or shine!). In commemoration of the 25th anniversary of Buzzards Bay’s Habitat for Humanity, each volunteer will walk 25 laps around the UMass Dartmouth track. To fundraise, student volunteers are reaching out to friends, family, and faculty to help reach our goal $1250. This will be a fun way to give back to the community in an important way during this national week of action and to celebrate Habitat for Humanity’s 25 years of service!

The season of giving is upon us and we need your help in order to fight hunger on campus! The Falcon Bazaar will be hosting a Food Pyramid from November 15th to November 23rd in the Street Level of Hammond Hall. We will be accepting food and hygiene/necessity products as a part of the drive. We here at MASSPIRG are working with the Falcon Bazaar to also make this a friendly competition among student groups. The student group that is able to donate the most items will be winning a trophy!
