Hunger & Homelessness Week at The Evergreen State College is centered on WashPIRG directly partnering with the Basic Needs Center to understand their gaps and what they need to help students get ahead, not just get by.
We worked with BNC staff to build a targeted funding proposal, socialized it with key stakeholders, and then navigated dual-role ethics while pitching it to student government (GSU) and successfully lobbying them to take it up and vote.
If approved, volunteers will help execute the plan by coordinating shopping, pickup, delivery, and distribution of supplies to both the Olympia and Tacoma campuses. Alongside this, we’re running a flyering campaign and neighborhood food-drive pickup effort to bring in additional community support for the BNC.
