GCPL Centerville hosts a nonfiction book club and the topic in November is Hunger and Homelessness Awareness in honor of the upcoming awareness week. For weeks leading up to the event on November 5 at 6 pm, we have organized a display table with books on hunger and homelessness. Patrons can checkout any nonfiction book pertaining to hunger and homelessness. At the book club, we plan to have education on the issue and a discussion about how it impacts our community, resources, and ways we can help.

Throughout the month of November, Greenbrier Public Schools and Harps (15 North Broadview Street Greenbrier, AR 72058) will partner for the 2nd annual "Bags for Backpack" project. Harps will bundle and display grocery sacks of food that are appropriate and necessary for our Friday Food Backpack Program. Each grocery sack will contain approximately $10 worth a combination of items such as noodles, tuna, peanut butter, jello cups, granola bars, and more. Store customers and community members can simply purchase a $10 "Bag for Backpacks" to be donated to our school district and Friday backpack program. We will have activities that help people put the day-to-day life of a homeless person into perspective. The activities will include, building a shelter out of cardboard boxes, a race to make the fastest pb&j sandwich, and a race to make the fastest "homeless kit" (essential items). After the event, we plan to donate the pb&j sandwiches, the kits, and the canned food from the food drive we're doing all week.
