Wavemakers for Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week

Overview:
To support Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week in collaboration with the National Coalition for the Homeless and the National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness, our upcoming Wavemakers event will focus on raising awareness, collecting donations, and inspiring action within our community. This event will align with the week’s mission of educating and empowering people to address poverty and homelessness, and it will build momentum as we approach Thanksgiving.

Planned Activities:

1. Open Mic & Awareness Spotlight:
• Artists, poets, and speakers will dedicate performances to the themes of hunger, homelessness, and hope. This creates a meaningful atmosphere and encourages attendees to reflect on the impact of homelessness and food insecurity.

2. Donation Drive for Essentials:
• We’ll collect essential items such as non-perishable foods, blankets, hygiene kits, and warm clothing. Donation stations will be set up throughout the venue, and participants will be encouraged to bring items to support shelters and food banks in the local area.

3. Raffle with a Cause:
• We’ll hold a raffle with all proceeds supporting local hunger and homelessness programs. Prizes could include studio time, private performances, and creative coaching sessions donated by local artists and businesses.

Messaging:

Our messaging for this event will emphasize community, empathy, and the power of small actions to make a big difference. Social media promotions will use hashtags such as #WavemakersAgainstHunger and #MakeAWaveForChange to encourage engagement and spread awareness leading up to the event.

This Wavemakers event will show our commitment to fighting hunger and homelessness and make an impact that resonates throughout our community. Together, we’ll make waves of change.

Our Memory Care team is hosting the "Snack Pack Smiles - Spreading Kindness Together" event on November 19th and 20th, where we come together to donate non-perishable snacks in brown bags to those in need. Engaging memory care residents in this event provides a sense of purpose and fulfillment, as they are actively contributing to a meaningful cause. Participating in the collection and donation process also offers cognitive stimulation. Sorting and organizing non-perishable snacks can help maintain fine motor skills and cognitive functions. Additionally, the social interaction involved in these activities fosters a sense of community and belonging among the residents.

We are proud to collaborate with the Marana Food Bank and Community Resource Center for this initiative. Throughout the month, we will also be collecting donations of non-perishable foods and canned goods from our independent and assisted living buildings, with the final collection on the 23rd.

To deepen our understanding of the impact of our contributions, the program manager of the Marana Food Bank will be visiting our assisted living community on November 19th. They will provide a special presentation for our residents, sharing insights on how these donations make a difference in our community. This presentation further enriches the experience, providing residents with valuable information about how their efforts are making a tangible difference, which can be very rewarding and motivating. This holistic approach not only supports their cognitive health but also nurtures their emotional and social well-being.

This event is part of our efforts to support Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.
