Created in 2018, the Denton County Barriers Fund is a fund of last resort to support a Denton County household in gaining or maintaining their housing by reimbursing a partner agency for up to $1,000 to overcome a housing barrier. Last resort is meant to refer to no other agency in the community being able to financially support overcoming the housing barrier for this household. Case Managers from across the housing system at over 13 agencies have access to this fund to support their clients. Requests for the barriers fund have supported items like; regaining needed identification documents for employment/housing, transportation on a bus to get to safe and stable housing elsewhere, basic furniture for someone entering housing, and work boots/tools for someone to begin a new job. In the past 5 years the Denton County Barriers Fund has assisted over 524 households with an average cost of $563.81 per request!
