During the month of November area schools collect food items for local food pantries. The day before Thanksgiving all of the food from each school is brought to a central location. Here the food is sorted, counted, and checked for expiration dates. Next we divide the food items up between around ten food pantries, and we deliver the food to those pantries. On this day we also prepare a meal for those waiting in line at the food pantries. We typically raise over 15 tons of food each year, and have roughly 30 of our advocates volunteer each year!
