What is the “Light the Way” Walk?
The “Light the Way” Walk is powered by the compassion of community members who wish to restore hope to people who are homeless or face food insecurity. With every step you take and every dollar you raise, you help create a pathway out of poverty. Whether you participant and fundraise as a team or an individual, YOU are so appreciated!
Here’s what to expect
1. Planning begins well before the Light the Way walk. To have a successful walk, we ask all of our participants to pre-register online, purchase event participation t-shirts, and begin fundraising to fuel the mission of Light the Way. Register for the event and purchase t-shirts at https://homelessnesshungerlighttheway.eventbrite.com
2. Registration packet / t-shirt pick-up will be at Helping Hands food pantry located at 227 Rockford St, Mt. Airy, NC 27030 Friday, November 17th 2pm-7pm or Saturday, November 18th from 10am-2pm (walkers must wear their purchased Light the Way t-shirts at the event to participate in the walk).
3. Arriving at Walk Day, you will go through our registration/check-in area located in the back parking area of Creekside Cinemas (605 E Bluemont Rd, Mount Airy, NC 27030) which is directly adjacent to the Granite City Greenway on the Emily B. Taylor Segment. Here you can check in and drop off collected fundraiser receipts, receive your Glow swag, purchase additional t-shirts, and complete walk waivers. You will have the opportunity to make additional donations throughout the duration of the event.
4. Event sponsors, vendors, and information tables will be strategically positioned throughout the festival area. Please be sure to visit these awesome supporters who worked so hard to make this event a success. This is really a time for you and your team members to join together and celebrate the reason you are walking to Light the Way!
5. Opening Ceremonies will begin at 6:15pm. It is a short, 15-minute program in which we celebrate the agencies we are walking to support. You will want to have the glow swag you received in your registration packet handy to use during the opening ceremony.
6. After our opening ceremony, there will be a final countdown and the Walk will begin. The Walk route is low impact, family-friendly and noncompetitive so you can walk as little or as much as you wish! You will be walking the greenway between Creekside Cinemas and the greenway access point at Big Lots in Mt. Airy. Be sure to display your glow swag proudly so traffic flowing by the greenway will surely notice the AWARENESS event we are hosting.
7. When you return from walking, music and vendors will be available in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.
