This will be Birmingham-Southern College’s second year participating in HHAW! We have planned the following events:

– (11/8) Though this event will be early, we want to provide the campus with time to participate. We will be hosting a donation drive for First Light, Birmingham’s women and children shelter. BSC has been serving weekly meals at First Light since the late 90’s. We recently were given permission to be able to go out to sit and talk with residents after serving meals, and they told us it’d be nice to be given opportunities to make crafts or do activities with students. So this fundraiser will be dedicated to collecting crafting items.
– (11/14) Guest speaker from One Roof, Birmingham’s US Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) homeless Continuum of Care (CoC). It is the coordinating agency for homeless CoC for Central Alabama.
– (11/16) Church of the Reconciler, a church that provides several services to people experiencing poverty and homelessness, has a program dedicate to resident’s expressing their creativity. The program recycles used plastics and converts them into coasters, ornaments, and jewelry. We will be inviting them to sell these items on campus! All sales return back to Church of the Reconciler to provide more services for the community.
– At some point in the week, we will be hosting a letter writing campaign to send to our U.S. representative to promote anti-hunger bills.
– We would like to host a gift card raffle to raise money to date to a non-profit, but we have not found a business to sponsor us.
