The UOPD will host several "Fill the Truck" events during the awareness week. All food donations will support our local food bank. The UOPD will also host an online viewing of the documentary "The Invisible Class", along with the film director Josh Hayes who will be live to answer questions after the film. All those attending are asked to make a donation in lieu of a registration fee.
Lastly, the UOPD will continue its practice of providing CARE to members of our community who are in need. Each patrol car as well as our station is equipped with care packages providing personal care items and letter of encouragement.

For this year's National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week, New Directions will be participating by featuring some of our team members and special guests on the frontlines of the efforts to end hunger and homelessness. Throughout the week, we'll be posting interviews and stories on Facebook and Instagram to raise awareness about the issues, increase advocacy, and most of all, inspire action.
On Tuesday, November 16th, 11am - 3 pm, our community will be invited in for a special Open House & Volunteer Fair at New Directions' Men's Shelter (1005 Osceola St., Myrtle Beach), celebrating the opening of our newly renovated 2nd floor adding 74 more beds. "Housewarming" gifts of hygiene, paper products, cleaning supplies, and financial donations appreciated to prepare for the increased capacity. Donation list available on New Directions' Amazon Wishlist (https://a.co/f6Oa045). We invite all to come and see what we do, and to learn how to get involved through volunteer opportunities and upcoming events.
On Thursday, November 18th, New Directions will be participating in the Homeless Coalition Resource Fair at the Community Kitchen (1411 Mr. Joe White Ave). Numerous service providers will be present to share information beneficial to those experiencing homelessness.
We'll also be "Filling The Truck" for National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week. "Fill The Truck" is our annual food drive canned goods and non-perishable food items and our goal this year to collect 1,000 lbs. of food to stock our pantries for Winter and Spring! This will help us continue feed the hungry through our nightly community dinner, offered to anyone in need of a meal (no questions asked!) 364 days a year! Donations accepted all week (and all year!) long, but our big collection day is Fill The Truck Friday, on November 19th at 1005 Osceola Street.
Beyond attending NHHAW events, scheduled tours of all of our shelters are available upon request. We invite you to take advantage of an opportunity to see firsthand our efforts to help those experiencing homelessness, hunger, poverty, and addiction.
Whether you engage virtually, visit or tour in-person, donate, give, or volunteer, you are making a difference! Together, we can end hunger and homelessness, because together, Hope Starts Here!
