Hi, I am Marco Marroquin, StuCo Secretary. For our StuCo family project, we planned a supply donation drive that will be donated to Austin Street Shelter, a homeless shelter in Dallas, Texas. Our goal is to get our student body to donate as much as possible to help those in need, so they can have a comfortable and wonderful thanksgiving week with the supplies we donate to them. The donation drive will run from November 15th through the 19th.

For National Hunger and Homeless Week. I presented a money management workshop on couponing for college students. I demonstrated how overage from coupons can be used to purchase non-coupon items such as food and how store apps have free food items and deals like $5.00 off of $5.00. For some students, that’s a guaranteed meal.

Our youth will hear speakers from our Local Homeless Shelter on Friday night. They will hand out food at our church's food bank Saturday morning and then go and work at a women's homeless shelter following that. Then the will participate in various homeless activities, building boxes to sleep in Saturday night in front of our church, panhandling on our town square to raise money for the local Homeless Shelter, putting together individual Survival Bags for the homeless that live under the bridges in downtown Clevelend, making blankets for the homeless and will participate in an activity where they are actually homeless for a day and have to figure out how to get a job, find housing, what documentation they need, how much money they need, etc.

My dealership, Gary Rome Hyundai, is participating in Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week by donating $10,000 to The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts with Hyundai Motor America. The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts recently launched a capital campaign to raise funds to build a new facility and I am proud to participate in this worthy campaign. My team and I will be presenting a check at the ceremony at The Food Bank on Thursday November 18 at 9:30am. Local philanthropy is important to me. I host many fundraising events at my dealership and extend my generosity to the surrounding community. As a Hyundai dealer, it means so much to me that our franchise is focused on helping The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts realize their vision to end hunger and to ensure everyone has access to nutritious food. Working together we can make a difference, especially during the holiday season when many local families face food insecurities.
