For more than 10 years, our chapter has partnered with MSMove and several other non-profit organizations in the Jackson-Metropolitan area to raise awareness are chronic homelessness and related issues. Through our social media platforms, local media and email listservs we engage our Central Mississippi community to raise awareness around homelessness and related issues and collect donations to support local food pantries and homeless shelters. Our efforts culminate with a “Sleep-Out for Helping the Homeless” which is always held the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. This years, the event will be held on November 22, 2022. On this day, we acquire permits from the City to gather at Pittman-Park which is located blocks away from the downtown area and is a common resting location for homeless persons due to it’s close proximity to shelters and non-profit food services. For 12-hours, we gather with partners/vendors to provide hot meals, clothings, connections to mental/medical health services, toiletry care packages and more.
