I sit on our City’s Housing & Human Services Committee -- just last week we mentioned Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week but no one is quite sure what to do for it yet to make it meaningful. The committee used to make that its centerpiece activity for the year with food and sock and toiletry drives, but it’s been pushed to the back burner by housing. Wondering if other communities have the same issue and how they are marking HHWeek. I will welcome any resources or ideas.

I am unsure of what events we will actually be doing but I would love to organize either a Cardboard City event or replicate the Homeless Challenge Project. I am currently researching both options and would like to present an idea to our local Advocacy and Awareness committee by the end of August.

The iCare initiative is structured to provide the resources that are needed for one to overcome some of the challenges that we face in our society. iCare 2019 will provide hope for the communities that the initiative will serve; to encourage participants that although their current situation isn’t the best, they will become who they are destined to become.
This year’s iCare initiative will tackle two to three various key issues, (providing Christmas for adolescents, homelessness and poverty, and/or women’s health issues and infant mortality in minority communities). We will reach our goals by partnering with churches, non-profit organizations and small businesses in the respective areas.
Overall Goals:
Location(s): Winston-Salem, Durham and Madison, NC
