Session One, 10:00am - 11.30am
From Hopelessness to Housing: Peer Recovery & Homeless Populations

Strength In Peers, a peer-run nonprofit with offices in Harrisonburg, New Market, and Luray, Virginia provides peer support to individuals who are living on the streets, staying in local shelters, or finding refuge in unstable dwellings. Presenters will discuss how to cultivate and maintain strong, mutual relationships, while dually navigating the seemingly hopeless dilemma surrounding housing affordability and availability. This session aims to provide insight and motivation as we delve into a discussion around how we hold hope and encourage wellness during a person's most desperate time.

Session Two, 11:30am - 12:30pm
Understanding Permanent Supportive Housing and a State Level Response

This workshop aims to provide an overview of Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) and the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), Office of Community Housing's efforts to provide supportive housing opportunities for adults with disabilities, across Virginia. These efforts aim to promote wellness, prevent and end the experience of homelessness, avoid unnecessary hospital admissions, and facilitate discharges from institutional facilities. This presentation will also touch on other housing resources that may be helpful when seeking affordable housing options.
